Main Methods of Cultivation
1. Aeroponics
Plants in hydroponic systems may be fully submerged in water or receive a timed flow of nutrients. In aeroponics, plants never touch the water, and nutrients are delivered through misting and spraying.
2. Aquaponics
Aquaponics blends hydroponic and organic techniques. Similar to hydroponic systems, the nutrient source comes from fish waste.
3. Hydroponics
In hydroponic cannabis cultivation, plants grow without soil. We suspend plants using a medium like rockwool or coco coir, which anchors the plant and delivers nutrients and oxygen to the roots.
4. Soil
Many longtime users claim organic flowers taste and smell better, although there’s no concrete evidence. Consequently, organically grown flowers generally have a higher price tag.
Methods of Growing Cannabis
Indoor cannabis cultivation is popular because it provides control over temperature, humidity, light levels, and airflow. Technology makes it easier to sense and automate environmental factors.
Cannabis naturally grows outdoors, producing larger plants and more flowers. Some even claim sun-grown cannabis is of higher quality!
Greenhouses provide the best of both worlds, allowing plants to receive natural sunlight for a full, flavorful terpene profile while protecting them from outdoor elements.
Cultivating Weed: 4 Stages
1. Germination
A fully developed, ready-to-germinate cannabis seed is dry, hard, and brown.
2. Seedling
During the Seedling stage, more blades grow, developing into the famous cannabis fan leaves.
3. Vegetative
The Vegetative stage, lasting several weeks to months, experiences the most plant growth.
4. Flowering
Flowering naturally coincides with reduced daily sunlight during the transition from summer to autumn months.
Flowering Stages
Initial Flowering
In the first weeks of flowering, female cannabis plants start growing buds, developing pistil-like white hairs.
Mid Flowering
Between 4-6 weeks of initial flowering, your marijuana plant doesn’t grow taller, but buds continuously grow larger.
Final Ripening
Around 6-8 weeks after flowering starts, cannabis plants ripen, increasing trichome density in the buds. It’s almost time to harvest.
About our Trim Process
We commonly use dry trimming, where plants are cut down and hung to dry for several days. Wet trimming skips the drying step and trims the nugs directly.
To ensure a high-quality harvest:
- Feed plants only water a week before scheduled harvesting.
- Examine trichomes on the nugs to determine harvesting time. They should resemble dew on grass. Harvest immediately if they turn yellowish or brownish.
- Wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty when harvesting.
- Keep scissors sharp for easier trimming.
- If cultivating several strains, note that they may need to be harvested at different times.
